What it does
It is built for students, parents and teachers who want to reformat a worksheet, a letter or an article quickly. It doesn’t need an account or an app. Everything happens in your browser, so it also works with private documents.
The fonts and their licences
All fonts are hosted on this site and are free, open-source fonts under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. You may use, share and embed them, including in commercial work.
- OpenDyslexic by Abbie Gonzalez — opendyslexic.org · licence
- Lexend by Bonnie Shaver-Troup, Thomas Jockin and contributors — lexend.com · licence
- Atkinson Hyperlegible by the Braille Institute of America — brailleinstitute.org · licence
The Lexend and Atkinson Hyperlegible web versions on this site are subset to Latin characters to load faster; OpenDyslexic is served unmodified. The downloadable .zip files contain the original font files with their licence.
Open-source libraries
Word files are read with mammoth.js (BSD-2-Clause) and created with docx (MIT). Read aloud uses your browser’s built-in speech voices.
A note on expectations
A font is a reading aid, not a cure. Research has not shown that dyslexia fonts improve reading on average, though many people prefer them. See What is a dyslexia font? for the details.
